BIOGRAPHY

The Ropers were an unassuming Washington, D.C., indie-pop band that made a handful of records for Slumberland and Teen-Beat during what one could say was the golden age of that sort of thing. But even though they share three members of the Ropers, there's not much confusing The Still with anybody else. Nectar, their debut, is chock-full of a kind of rock music that's sadly fallen by the wayside in recent years: fully immersed in the sort of revised pop ethos of Sloan, but also minimal enough to evoke Television, the dB's or even an Athens jangle-band like Love Tractor. However you want to paint it, The Still makes groovy, intelligent rock for a world that's neither. Nectar is a left-field minor masterpiece of clean guitar, clean living and dirty thoughts, destined to be reissued 20 years from now for a world that still might not be ready for it.
